Designing Our Rickshaw

One of the most fun aspects of The Rickshaw Run is The Adventurist's ask you to "pimp" your rickshaw. Basically, they send you a very rudimentary template of the shape of a rickshaw and you can design it however your heart desires. Then, you send the design back to The Adventurist's and they paint your rickshaw per your design. The problem; Mike and I could not come up with a design we both liked and were capable of creating.
First, we wanted to go with a theme. Since our team name is inspired by a Caesar quote, we thought we should design the rickshaw as a chariot. So I put on my drawing cap and gave it a try. It was okay, but not great. So we decided we would stick with the design, but make the chariot really colorful. So we re-colored it. I still didn't love it, mainly because I am a crappy artist, but whatever we were going to go with it.

Then, our route changed to follow the western coast of India, so we thought it could be fun to do something beachy with a "Woody" surf car themed rickshaw. This required less artistic ability. We got that all drawn up, and it was cool....but oh so boring, especially looking at it straight on.

So finally, I said let's just splatter paint all over it and be done. This led to many google searches and ultimately the creation of final rickshaw design:

It reminds me of the Holi. Holi is a Spring festival in India where participants play, chase and color each other with dry powder and colored water. Anyone and everyone is fair game, friend or stranger, rich or poor, man or woman, children and elders. The frolic and fight with colors occurs in the open streets, open parks, outside temples and buildings. Groups carry drums and other musical instruments, go from place to place, sing and dance. Holi is the festival of sharing love. How appropriate as we seek to fund raise for Ben's Bells and spread their message of kindness!

This year Holi lands on March 13th, so we will miss it by a couple of weeks. But we hope our rickshaw serves as a reminder of the festival and it's beautiful meaning.
Our fundraising is moving along - have you donated yet? If not, please click here to check that to-do off your list. Thank you!
